Today's report: Monday Jan 31st - DAY 2
(preliminary results)...
Site: Vallejuelo
Conditions: Conditions improved a little from yesterday. Wind aloft was weaker, but it was still stable in the lower layers. The strong morning inversion started breaking by noon and a couple of hours later the sky started looking quite good.
Outstanding flights: The Slovenian brothers Aljaz and Urban once again showed great talent. Aljaz completed a 45 km FAI triangle with two valley crossings and flying both over the takeoff ridge and Sierra de Neyba. Urban ended up with quite a similar flight, a 42 km FAI triangle, but the pair were not flying together. The revelation of the day was UK's Mike Bretherton who decided to fly downwind up to the Haitian border, then cross the range north into Valle de San Juan, ending with a 40 km leg towards San Juan. In the end, he scored an 80 km triangle flying his DHV 1/2 Airwave Sport 2.
Day winner: Mike Bretherton.
Category 1 day winner: Canada's Greg Boyd flying his Swing ARcus 4, 31.2 points.
Category 2 day winner: UK pilot Mike Bretherton on his Airwave Sport 2, scoring 140 points.
Category 3 day winner: UK's John Cardiff on his Windtech Tempest, with 49 points.
Category 4 day winner: Italy's MarcoLorenzon on his Advance Omega 6., scoring 69.7 points.
