Great XC flying in the first days...
We are only in the fourth day out of seven and over 20 pilots have done their personal best XC flight! Pilots are adding 3 or 4 thermic hours to their belt everyday and a few of them have inaugurated their XC carrer with flights of 20+ km!
Experienced pilots have been amazed by the flying potential of the area and three Dominican Records have fallen so far: British pilot Mike Bretherton set the Triangle record in 80.4 km flying his DHV 1/2 Airwave Sport; Slovenian Aljaz Valic broke the existing 69 km Out and Return record by flying 83.6 km departing from Vallejuelo's takeoff on his Mac Para Magus; and finally, also in a Mac Para Magus, Urban Valic set a Distance Over Three Turnpoints record by flying 117 km, with a final leg that was only two km short of the current Dominican straight distance record still standing at 60 km.
Day 5 looks even more promising so stay tuned and keep folowing the comp through the online daily reports in the Results page.
